Why is pace so important in the delivery of this play?
Research; in to the pace of performances and how it effects the mood and delivery of the piece as a whole.
Youtube clip of a Michael McIntyers comdey sketch-
This is just one example of Michael's comedy sketches. In his comdey sketches, lace is an important factor. This is because with out movement and a change in the speed he walks, talks and gestures, the content would be bland and in some parts make no sence to the audience.
Why is pace so important in the delivery of this play?
Pace is an important part of Dissocia due to the fact the
play contains many elements of humour which requires a fluctuation in pace to
ensure the audience understand the content of the play. If the play ran on one
level of tension throughout, the content wouldn't make sense due to the fact
each scene would intertwine in to the next, resulting in the audience not being
able to distinguish a change in scene or the happenings of it.
Two examples of scenes with a contrast in pace is the Guard
scene, with an overall level 6 state of
tension and the bear scene, with a level 3 state of tension. The Guard scene
has to be upbeat and acted by the two Guards and Lisa with a high level of pace
because the level of humour it includes simply wouldn’t make sense without
pace. In comparison, the Bear scene must have a nice slow and sluggish pace to it
due to the mood of the scene and that fact Lisa was almost raped the scene
before. This is a grey subject therefore she is feeling hurt and sorry for
herself. The constant slow pace reflects her mood here.
In conclusion, I believe pace is a very important part of
any performance, particularly as pace reflects the mood of the characters and
atmosphere of the setting. Also I think if the play is naturalistic, it makes
it easier for the actors to naturally know what pace the play is to be acted at
as it will usually reflect real life. However if the play is non-naturalistic,
the actors will still be able to work out the pace whereas in this case, would
have to work with their character’s personality and the meaning of the play in
more depth to reach an answer.
