Tuesday 3rd February- Dissocia lesson

Today in musical theatre, we focused on the Britney scene. In the script, the scene is from pages 55 to 73, before transitioning into act two.
The world of Dissocia shows cultural comparisons to the real world Lisa lives in. One of these differences is in their food traditions. For example in Dissocia, people there are offered hot dogs when waiting around. Hot dogs are a type of fast food, which has several inferences to why Lisa may have imagined fast food being a part of her world.
Fast food-

·       Cheap, easy and time saving

·       Indulgence

·       Low self-control

·       Can be associated to relaxation

During the scene previous to the Britney scene, Lisa has an argument with her boyfriend Vince, which is done as a voice over. The argument consists of Vince asking Lisa why she was at the airport when they had plans to meet with each other. Vince uses strong language and says ‘I’m really getting fucking sick of this’ this line conveys his sheer anger towards her incapability to keep plans and arrangements however, contrastingly shows is desperation for Lisa to recover from her illness as he can’t bear to see her in this way. You can infer from the language she uses against Vince, ‘Just leave me alone, Vince.’ that she is exasperated with him and has no wish to see him at this point.

Lisa- Britney scene

·       I estimate Lisa to be an overall 5 throughout this scene, in the states of tension scale. I believe she fluctuates between a 4 and 7 in certain parts however collectively, I would class her as a 5.

·       She is trying to block out and deny the fact she has been in an argument with Vince because she loves and cares about him.

·       She is stressing out, due to the fact she has a desperate desire to find her lost hour.
