Grease- Dance research

Grease the musical is set in the 1950s and includes jive, swing and jazz dance styles. The way Grease has been choreographed is amazing and really grabs the attention of the audience due to how to performers sell their characters.

The use of focus, extension and special awareness in this rather famous Grease number is what makes the choreography come to life and stand out as a brilliant performance.

The jive is a lively style of dance popular especially in the 1940s and 1950s, performed to swing music or rock and roll.

The way the jive and swing style of dance was used in the musical and the way the characters were dressed, was a big part of a young persons social life in the 1950s. Dancers would socialise by dressing up and going out jive and swing dancing with their friends.
