The audition workshop

The audition workshop

Today we were out in to groups, I was with Ashley, Izzy and Kim. We were given three situations to prepare in 10 minutes and act out. This required a used of improvisation skills.
1) girlfriend brings boyfriend home for the first time
2) an argument in a shop
3) a funeral of a loved one

In ways, these were all challenging pieces to device in a group of four because you are limited to the characters you include therefore, it is essential you pick the most important characters.
1) For this we chose the Father to be slightly rude, unhygienic and overall a very typical football loving male. The Mother, very caring and concerned for her daughters welfare.
2) We decided on using contrasting characters, one wealthy and spoilt girl and one chav like girl. We decided to play with these characters to show a contrast in class division and social manors.
3) For this emotional subject, our group decided to rehearse as a baby had passed away. The Mother was present and her two best friends who had come along for moral support. The Mother was a teen Mum who was destrought about the loss.

3)

The final task we were asked to complete was finding common ground in the three improvisation pieces we'd put together. We did this by changing a couple of the lines and characters, just slightly to ensure the content made sense and by chance, the scenes actually fitted really well together.

In our group we used vocal techniques such as projection, in the argument and end if the funeral scene and diction, in the second scene to ensure the audience were clear in what we were saying and understood the content of the divised piece.
We found that we had to okay around with our original three scenes to make sure they flowed in to one another properly however when we had done this, the narrative that we'd created made sense and was gripping.
